Back to homeElimination of alcohol from the bloodstream occurs at a constant rate and on average the blood alcohol concentration is decreasing at a rate of 0.1 - 0.2 per mil/hour, and exhaled alcohol concentration at 0.045 - 0.09 mg/l per hour. The body metabolizes alcohol at a constant rate. The alcohol consumption rate that is greater than the metabolic rate causes a cumulative effect - an increase of blood and breath alcohol concentration.
The table below gives a set of indicative values of breath alcohol concentration (mg/l) that depends on the amount of alcohol consumed and body weight. One dose of alcohol corresponds to one 0.33 l bottle of beer, 40 - 50 ml of vodka, rum, 30 - 40 ml of whiskey, or 100 ml glass of wine.
The breath alcohol concentration is based on the amount of alcohol consumed and body weight.
